The 'B' math class consists of the current grade level math curriculum and moves at a consistent pace. The 'A' math class consists of advanced topics from the current and next grade level math curriculum. Each student is assessed and placed into either an 'A' or 'B' math class. Martha Catholic School provides two levels of math for 6th-8th grade. Students develop an economic way of thinking and problem solving as a knowledgeable consumer and investor.Students interpret, represent, and use their knowledge with number sense to understand data and measurement.Students use expressions and equations to show various mathematical relationships within a variety of contexts.Students apply and use proportionality to describe and show mathematical relationships by using ratios, rates, and fractions.Students use and apply various mathematical operations with integers and rational numbers to solve various problems.

The primary focus for students in Middle School Mathematics: Grade 6 at St. Word study using Greek/Latin roots and analogies.Nonfiction (text structures, text features, reading nonfiction).They will understand and master the English language including the following parts of speech. Students will also increase their vocabularies with weekly vocabulary exercises and tests. They will practice editing skills on a daily basis and become proficient editors of their own work and that of others. They will use conventions to be able to write complete sentences with subject/verb agreement, correct punctuation, capitalization, word usage, and parts of speech. Students will produce finished writing projects utilizing MLA format. Martha Catholic School student will understand and use elements of the writing process to compose texts such as personal narratives, expository essays, research reports, creative writing, and both formal and informal letters.
